USC Sumter iCarolina Lab Mural Art
My original design concepts revolved around the history of South Carolina and conceptualizing the use of Apple technology in the iCarolina Lab into art. The design needed to be mounted on the wall, as painting was not an option for our timeline. I knew the University's branding colors were a must-have in the design, as well as the use of one specific wall as an accent or statement piece instead of art that would span the entire room. I navigated through designs that varied from complicated to simple, but these preliminary thoughts did not quite cut it for the university dean. After the below three concept designs, he loved and greatly looked forward to the art that would be added to the new campus iCarolina Lab.
The Final Wall Design :
First and foremost, the final design uses only USC Sumter's branding colors, Fire Ant Red, Black, and White, on a grey background. The iCarolina Lab mural showcases five staples of the Sumter community. Moving from left to right, the viewer can recognize the USC Sumter mascot, fire ants, the Sumter County Opera House, the silhouette of an F-16 Thunderbird jet, the USC Sumter Anderson Library, and Irises from Swan Like Iris Gardens.
